2010 Japanese Acupuncture Certificate Series presented by the Japanese Acupuncture Institute, LLC & Pacific Rim College
THE JAPANESE ACUPUNCTURE SERIES, offered at Pacific Rim College, encompasses two basic approaches to Japanese acupuncture clinical practice: Manaka's Yin-Yang Channel Balancing Therapy and Meridian Therapy. The series covers a broad range of treatment techniques from Japan, including abdominal (hara) palpation and diagnosis, subtle needling techniques, moxibustion, use of intradermals, press tacks and press spheres, cupping and bloodletting techniques, Sotai, and non-needling pediatric (Shonishin) techniques. Please see here for more details.
The certificate program consists of 4 weekend modules of 3 days length and a 2-day clinical intensive. Although each module brings students closer to fully understanding Japanese acupuncture techniques, the first 3 modules can be taken individually as stand alone courses. Only students who have completed the first 3 modules are eligible to take the fourth and the clinical intensive.

Reiki Level One and Two
Course Overview: Classes in Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki, provide a simple and effective approach to hands-on healing for oneself and family or friends. This technique, developed in the context of traditional Japanese medicine and spirituality, is simple to learn and to practise and provides a complement to other medical treatments.
Course Description: The First Degree or Level One class introduces the history of the Usui System of Reiki. It provides instruction in a foundation treatment, especially useful for chronic conditions and self-maintenance. Treatment in emergency situations and other applications of Reiki such as treatment of pets, food and plants is also covered. A discussion of the Reiki Principles and four initiations prepare the student for practise. On completion, students receive a booklet on the history and principles of Usui Shiki Ryoho and a First Degree Certificate from the Reiki Alliance.
Approximately one year of practise is prerequisite to Second Degree Reiki or the Level Two class. This class provides a review of Level One and of experience in subsequent practise, and also introduces the student to distant treatment. Three symbols and their application to enhance treatment or provide distant treatment are taught. Also, an initiation to the second degree symbols is performed.
A book written by the instructor, titled Reflections of Medicine Beach: Conversations with a Place, and a Second Degree certificate from the Reiki Alliance is provided upon completion of the course.
Instructor: Shelley Easthope, BA, RST, Reiki Master, is a Registered Shiatsu Practitioner and Reiki Master, maintaining her clinical practise in her home on Pender Island, B.C. Shelley’s lifelong interest in healing and spirituality has led her to study a wide variety of traditions, techniques and disciplines, including dance and yoga in her early years. In addition to her academic training in the Faculty of Human and Social Development at the University of Victoria, Shelley trained in Vancouver as a Shiatsu Therapist with Ted Thomas and in 1987 and established with him the first licensed shiatsu clinic in the city, Sourcepoint Centre. In New Mexico in 1988, Shelley was initiated by Phyllis Lei Furumoto as a master of Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki. Shelley studied aikido with Paul Mitchell, Guardian of the Discipline of Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki. Shelley has continued her study of shiatsu with masters including Ohasi and Saito. She is a member of The Shiatsu Therapy Association of B.C., and of The Reiki Alliance.
Living on Pender Island close to the natural environment has profoundly influenced Shelley’s practise and understanding of Asian medicine. Shelley was involved in the conservation effort to protect Medicine Beach, which is near her home and described in her small book, Reflections of Medicine Beach: Conversations with a Place.
